Judge Dredd: Compact Crimes begins a new line of pocket-sized collections built to make the character's long history easier to enter. Rebellion Publishing plans to gather Judge Dredd cases in order, giving new readers a clear path through decades of stories without asking them to navigate scattered editions. The compact format also brings the first volume in at $12.99 in the United States and £9.99 in the United Kingdom.

The opening volume features stories by Pat Mills and John Wagner, with artwork by Brian Bolland, Mick McMahon, Ian Gibson, and others. These are foundational names in Dredd's history, so the collection begins close to the source of the strip's severe satire and hard-edged future policing. Reading the cases chronologically should also make Mega-City One's growth easier to follow.

Fifty Years After Prog Two

The collection arrives just before the 50th anniversary of 2000 AD, the British weekly comic that introduced Judge Dredd in its second issue. That timing makes Compact Crimes both an anniversary release and a practical new-reader edition. It celebrates the character by putting the original work back into circulation in sequence, rather than separating it into a commemorative sampler.
