Anbernic Builds a Modern Home for Retro Games

The Anbernic RG 55G1 is a compact Android handheld shaped much like a Nintendo Switch Lite, but its purpose is rooted in retro gaming. A Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 processor makes this the first Anbernic system built around Qualcomm's gaming-focused chip, giving the device more room for demanding emulation than the company's smaller budget models.

A Full-HD Screen in a Portable Frame

Its 5.5-inch Incell IPS touchscreen runs at 1920 by 1080 and uses full OCA lamination beneath 2.5D glass. The handheld measures 208 by 86 by 17 millimeters and weighs 339 grams, keeping the screen generous without turning the RG 55G1 into a tablet-sized machine.

Controls Made for Long Sessions

Hall-effect analog sticks and triggers reduce the mechanical wear associated with traditional potentiometers, while active cooling helps the chip maintain performance. Android 14 opens the door to native games, streaming apps, and user-selected emulators, and expandable storage leaves space for larger libraries. A 6,000mAh battery handles power away from an outlet.

The RG 55G1 comes in indigo, retro gray, and black, with two memory configurations available. Its regular price is $149.99, while an introductory $139.99 price begins with the August 31 launch.
