M5 Ultra Stitches Four Dies Together

The new Mac Studio reaches its highest tier with M5 Ultra, a chip formed by connecting two dual-die M5 Max packages through Apple's next-generation UltraFusion link. That creates a single system with up to a 36-core CPU and 80-core GPU. The GPU also places a Neural Accelerator in every core, giving local AI and graphics work the same large pool of unified memory.

Half a Terabyte Can Stay Beside the Desk

M5 Ultra supports as much as 512GB of unified memory with up to 1.2TB per second of bandwidth. That capacity is aimed at datasets and language models too large for ordinary desktop memory configurations. The 512GB option will follow the main launch later, while standard configurations begin shipping first.

M5 Max Is the Less Extreme Studio

The entry model uses M5 Max with 36GB of memory and a 512GB SSD for $2,499. It can scale to a 40-core GPU and 128GB of unified memory, making it the more approachable choice for video, 3D, and software work that does not need Ultra's four-die design. M5 Ultra starts at $5,499 with 96GB of memory and 1TB of storage.

Thunderbolt 5 Turns Studios Into a Cluster

Thunderbolt 5 handles fast storage, displays, and direct links between multiple Mac Studio systems for distributed AI workloads. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 update the wireless side, while the compact aluminum enclosure remains familiar. The case may look unchanged, but the refresh is centered on keeping unusually large professional and AI jobs local to the desk.
