Samsung Shrinks the Tag and Loses the Hole

The leaked Galaxy SmartTag 3 adopts a simpler round tracker shape, but drops the built-in loop that made SmartTag 2 easy to attach to keys and bags. Owners would need a separate holder or accessory for mounting it. That mirrors the least convenient part of Apple's AirTag even as Samsung keeps its own SmartThings Find network underneath.

Bluetooth Finds It, UWB Points the Way

Bluetooth handles broader nearby discovery, while ultra-wideband can provide more precise direction and distance on compatible Galaxy phones. Once a tag moves beyond the owner's direct range, other Samsung devices in the SmartThings Find network can anonymously help update its location. IP67 protection should let the tracker survive dust, rain, and an accidental brief dunk.

Five Hundred Days on One Battery

Expected battery life is roughly 500 days, limiting how often the small tracker needs attention. Black and white individual models have appeared in retail data at $29.99, with a mixed four-pack listed at $139.99. Samsung has not announced a date, though the depth of the retail leak suggests a launch may be close. The feature set is a practical continuation of SmartTag 2; the bigger question is whether the smaller body is worth giving up a built-in attachment point.
