NXTPAPER Gets the AMOLED Upgrade

The TCL P80 Ultra is one of the first phones to combine the company's paper-like NXTPAPER treatment with an AMOLED panel. Its 6.83-inch, 1.5K display keeps the anti-glare and eye-comfort focus of earlier NXTPAPER screens while adding the stronger contrast, brightness, and color associated with AMOLED. It is the display change TCL users have been waiting to see in finished hardware.

An Upper-Midrange Phone With Flagship Ambition

A MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Elite chip runs the phone with 8GB of memory and as much as 512GB of storage. The rear camera system uses two 50-megapixel sensors, including a dedicated telephoto camera that distinguishes the Ultra from the P80 Pro's ultrawide pairing. IP68 protection adds resistance against dust and water.

A Battery Sized for the Big Screen

The 6,800mAh battery is unusually generous for a phone in this class and gives the large, high-resolution panel room to stretch its legs. TCL has also promised seven years of operating-system and security updates for the Ultra. The cheaper P80 models receive the same security window but only three years of Android upgrades.

TCL's Most Complete P80

The Ultra sits at the top of a three-phone family, combining the stronger chip, largest storage option, longest software commitment, and telephoto camera. It launches in Europe at €549. TCL says a U.S. release will follow, though it has not provided a date.
