Ceramic May Return to Apple’s Wrist

Apple Watch Series 12 may revive the polished ceramic case that disappeared from the lineup six years ago. The material gave earlier Edition models a bright, almost porcelain-like finish while being marketed as four times harder than stainless steel, making it both a luxury option and a practical defense against scratches.

A Finish Collectors Never Forgot

Apple first offered white ceramic with Series 2, added gray for Series 3, dropped the Edition line for Series 4, and brought white back one final time with Series 5. Since its 2020 discontinuation, ceramic models have become sought-after pieces on the resale market.

The returning case would give Series 12 a visual story beyond its expected incremental hardware changes. It may also revive the Edition idea without returning to the original line’s five-figure solid-gold pricing, though no price or ceramic color has surfaced.

New Silicon Inside a Familiar Generation

Series 12 is expected to receive a new chip for improved performance alongside a collection of smaller upgrades. The ceramic option remains a rumor, with earlier timing pointing to either 2026 or 2027 and a newer leak placing it specifically in this generation.

Apple is expected to introduce the watch in September beside Apple Watch Ultra 4, iPhone 18 Pro models, and its first foldable iPhone. If ceramic does return, the most noticeable change may be the material on the outside rather than a dramatic redesign underneath it.
