The Made in USA 990v4 "Grey Violet" starts New Balance's fall and winter season with a color that feels unexpectedly light. Pale purple spreads across the upper, while a warm Timberwolf midsole and black outsole keep the shoe from becoming sugary. White logos and small reflective accents provide the clearest breaks in the tonal surface.

Hairy Suede Meets a Wool-Blend Vamp

Texture does most of the work here. Long-nap suede wraps the toe, eyestays, and heel, while a custom wool-blend material fills the vamp beneath synthetic accents. The materials give the quiet palette visible depth and suit cooler weather better than the color name alone might suggest.

The V4 Cushioning Formula Stays Intact

Originally introduced in 2016, the 990v4 refined the more modern proportions of the v3 without abandoning the series' running roots. ABZORB cushioning sits at the heel and forefoot, supported by a combined ENCAP and C-CAP midsole. NDurance rubber covers the high-wear areas underneath, preserving the everyday durability expected from a 990.

The Grey Violet pair releases September 3 for $195. It leads the first drop of the seasonal Made in USA collection alongside the neutral 993 "Morel," but its wool surface and washed-purple color give it the softer, more distinctive personality of the two.
