FKA Twigs Cuts the Heel Off the Cloudmonster

The Cloudmonster 3 Mule is On's first backless take on its biggest everyday running silhouette. Co-curated with FKA twigs, it keeps the shoe's enormous hollowed sole but opens the heel for easy step-in wear. The result sits somewhere between recovery footwear, a chunky sneaker, and an unusually technical house shoe.

Three Layers of CloudTec Stay Underfoot

Removing the back does not strip away the Cloudmonster's defining construction. A triple layer of CloudTec cushioning still creates the tall, sculpted platform, giving the mule the same exaggerated profile that made the original shoe instantly recognizable. A terry-lined collar and interior soften the contact points, while the shell uses recycled polyester.

Two Earthy Palettes Keep It Grounded

The Cacao/Espresso colorway mixes deep brown tones, and Loess/Hare moves through lighter sand shades. Both combinations let the unusual shape carry the design instead of relying on neon running colors. Men's and women's sizing broadens the reach of a model that already feels deliberately unconcerned with conventional categories.

The Cloudmonster 3 Mule arrives August 27 for $180. It is an appealing contradiction: the convenience of a slip-on resting on top of one of the most engineered and visually aggressive cushioning systems in modern running shoes.
