Hubble Finally Gets a Model at Astronaut Scale

The 1,252-piece Lego Icons Hubble builds a 15-inch observatory at roughly 1:35 scale, about twice the size of earlier Lego versions. An included astronaut minifigure makes the telescope’s enormous real-world proportions immediately understandable.

Open the Panels and Follow the Light

The aperture door reveals the secondary mirror, while removable body sections expose the primary mirror and central baffle that directs starlight toward the instruments. Inside are representations of active equipment including STIS, COS, ACS, and NICMOS.

The Model Reflects Hubble After Its Final Service

Lego depicts the telescope’s current configuration following the fifth astronaut servicing mission in 2009. Three gyroscopes, five guidance sensors, communication antennas, current-generation solar wings, pressure vents, star-tracker paths, and a future capture mechanism extend the engineering detail beyond the obvious silhouette.

The Stand Displays What Hubble Saw

A fact plaque lists all five shuttle servicing missions, and three translucent printed pieces show the Pillars of Creation, Whirlpool Galaxy, and Butterfly Nebula. At $140, the finished display honors both the machine and the discoveries that made its 35-plus years in orbit matter.
