AMG Builds an Electric Hammer

The battery-powered AMG GT four-door is being developed around Mercedes-AMG's dedicated AMG.EA architecture. The GT 63 uses three axial-flux motors for as much as 1,153 horsepower and 1,475 pound-feet of torque, with a claimed 2.3-second sprint to 60 mph and a 186-mph top speed.

An 11-Minute Charging Goal

A 106-kWh battery uses lessons from Formula 1, including silicon-rich anodes and cooling for individual cells. Mercedes targets charging at up to 600 kW and a 10-to-80-percent session in 11 minutes, alongside an estimated 315 miles of EPA range.

Theater Without a V8

Simulated shifts and recreated V8 sounds aim to preserve some AMG character, while active aerodynamics manage cooling and high-speed stability. A lower-output GT 55 with 805 horsepower gives the range a second rung, though even that figure makes the new car anything but restrained.
