The Stranger Returns to a Metro Ruled by Hunter

Metro 2039 sends an exiled protagonist back beneath Moscow after nightmares make staying away impossible. He finds Hunter no longer acting as the Spartan protector players remember. Hunter now controls Novoreich as a fascist dictator, using propaganda and fear while steering the surviving stations toward war over the surface and the Dark Ones.

The Interface Is a Backpack, Watch, and Folded Map

Nearly every survival task is grounded in something physical. The Stranger checks his filter on a wristwatch, turns over a paper map to read objectives, and opens a backpack to craft ammunition or replacement filters. Two core resources keep recipes understandable, while uncommon weapon attachments remain valuable discoveries. Even saving progress belongs to the logbook he carries.

Moscow Punishes Careless Confidence

Light reveals routes through the dark, but a flashlight can also announce the Stranger's position. Human strongholds reward quiet observation before an attack, and packs of enormous nosalises make some surface encounters better avoided entirely. Exploration can turn stranger still inside a haunted school filled with puzzles and supernatural danger.

The fourth main Metro game comes to Xbox Series consoles and Xbox on PC in February 2027 with Xbox Play Anywhere support. By putting essential information in the character's hands, it makes every preparation feel like part of surviving Hunter's Moscow.
