ROG Xbox Ally X20 gives ASUS's Windows handheld a 7.4-inch, 1080p OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The panel supports variable refresh rate, Dolby Vision HDR, and brightness up to 1,400 nits in HDR. It is the clearest break from the earlier Ally X, replacing its 7-inch LCD while keeping the same portable PC idea.

The Anniversary Shell Shows Its Work

Translucent black plastic reveals part of a revised cooling system and a gold-colored internal structure. Those details mark 20 years since ASUS formed Republic of Gamers in 2006 without turning the device into a display-only collectible. Inside are an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of LPDDR5X memory, a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD, and an 80Wh battery.

The Controls Get a Hardware Rethink

TMR joysticks resist drift, Hall-effect triggers read input magnetically, and a transforming D-pad switches between four-way and eight-way movement. The handgrips gain a rubberized finish, while a MicroSD Express reader offers faster expandable storage. At 1.67 pounds, X20 remains a substantial handheld despite those control and screen upgrades.

The $1,300 Handheld Can Become a $2,499 Kit

The standalone X20 is the direct route for buyers who only want the upgraded handheld. The larger bundle adds ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 AR glasses, a dbrand Killswitch case, a 68-watt adapter, joystick covers, and a custom Pelican case. The glasses project a 171-inch virtual screen at four meters and connect over one USB-C cable, turning an already premium device into a full travel setup.
