Nintendo is rebuilding Ocarina of Time for Switch 2 to mark The Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary. The 1998 original transformed the series from top-down adventures into full 3D environments and helped establish ideas such as target locking and context-sensitive buttons across the genre.

This Is More Than an HD Polish

The brief reveal shows a complete visual overhaul of the Nintendo 64 game, with a look that departs sharply from Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Nintendo calls it “reborn,” language that suggests a more ambitious reconstruction than the HD rereleases given to several other Zelda entries.

Link’s Nightmare Gains a New Detail

The trailer returns to the Great Deku Tree’s opening narration and Link sleeping restlessly as the only Kokiri without a fairy. During the nightmare, the Triforce glows on his left hand—a new visual emphasis within a scene tied to Zelda’s escape from Hyrule Castle and Ganondorf’s pursuit.

A Landmark Gets Another Chance to Set the Standard

Ocarina has already received Master Quest and a stereoscopic 3DS remake with quality-of-life improvements. The Switch 2 version now has the harder task: preserve the design that influenced decades of adventures while making its version of Hyrule feel newly alive.
