The Same Switch 2 Now Costs Fifty Dollars More

Nintendo is raising the U.S. price of the standard Switch 2 from $449.99 to $499.99 on September 1. The base hardware is unchanged, including its 256GB of internal storage. This is a straight price revision rather than a new model, storage bump, or bundled game.

A Hybrid Console With Less Room for Extras

Switch 2 remains a portable system that can dock to a television, with detachable Joy-Con controllers and compatibility with its growing game library. Its 256GB capacity is a large step beyond the original Switch, though downloadable games can still make a microSD Express card an early additional purchase. At the new price, those accessories and a game push the real starting cost well past $500.

Market Conditions Reach the Hardware Shelf

Nintendo attributes the increase to changes in market conditions expected to continue over the medium to long term. The original Switch price is not changing in the United States. That leaves the newer system carrying the adjustment on its own.

For anyone already planning to buy the console, the practical dividing line is September 1. Purchasing the same 256GB model before then avoids the $50 increase; waiting does not bring different hardware in exchange.
