Tom and Jerry: Forbidden Compass begins with another pursuit through a New York museum, but a magical compass turns the familiar routine into a much larger trip. The pair are pulled through a time portal and land in a golden city inspired by ancient China. Getting home requires them to navigate a place filled with unfamiliar rules, creatures, and dangers.

Classic Slapstick Meets Chinese Fantasy

The movie is the first fully computer-animated Tom and Jerry feature built around a Chinese setting. Its world draws on Chinese architecture and folklore while keeping the physical comedy that has defined the cat and mouse for generations. Tom and Jerry still spend plenty of time working against each other, even as mysterious rats and magical threats force them into an uneasy partnership.

A Local Story for a Global Pair

Warner Bros. Pictures and China Film Group developed the project with a Chinese animation team, creating a localized adventure rather than simply dropping a few landmarks into a standard chase. Zhang Gang wrote and directed the film. The setting reflects the characters' long-standing popularity across Asia, where their largely visual humor has traveled easily without depending on dialogue.

Back on the Big Screen

Forbidden Compass runs 104 minutes and carries a PG rating. Its combination of fantasy travel, folklore-inspired characters, and broad comedy gives younger viewers an accessible entry point while preserving the rivalry older audiences recognize. The film opens in U.S. theaters on September 4, following its earlier release in China.
