The X5 Finally Goes Fully Electric
The BMW iX5 brings battery power to the brand's core midsize SUV while keeping production in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Its 144-kWh usable battery supports a manufacturer-estimated 435 miles of range, an unusually ambitious figure for a large dual-motor SUV.
A 22-Minute Charge Target
An 800-volt system permits charging at up to 460 kW, with BMW targeting 10 to 80 percent in 22 minutes and about 170 miles added in ten. The xDrive60 combines a rear electrically excited motor with a front induction motor that can disconnect when it is not needed, producing 570 horsepower and 593 pound-feet of torque.
New Controls Behind a Familiar Badge
BMW's Heart of Joy system coordinates the drivetrain, braking, and chassis responses from one computer. Inside, Panoramic Vision spreads information across the windshield below the driver's sightline, while a 17.9-inch center screen and optional passenger display carry the rest of the interface.
