Bentley's First EV Takes the Sportier Route

The Torcal will open Bentley's electric era with a new name and a shape that sits below the Bentayga in size. Rather than turning its first battery-powered model into another grand touring sedan, Bentley is building a compact luxury SUV with a squareback profile and a more athletic brief.

Cayenne Hardware, Crewe Character

Underneath, the Torcal is expected to share an 800-volt architecture and 108-kWh battery with the Porsche Cayenne Electric. Dual motors and all-wheel drive should produce roughly 838 horsepower in the higher-performance configuration, while an estimated 300 miles of EPA range would make it usable beyond short city trips. Fast DC charging is also part of the package.

Even the Sound Gets a Bentley Treatment

Bentley is steering away from the synthetic spaceship noises common in EVs. Its engineers have instead explored a low, percussive drumbeat that gives acceleration some theater without pretending there is a combustion engine up front. The choice fits a vehicle that needs to feel unmistakably Bentley even as the mechanical foundation changes completely.

The Torcal name comes from El Torcal de Antequera, the dramatic Spanish rock landscape. Bentley plans to reveal the production vehicle on September 26, when its first EV will finally move from a major company milestone to a car people can see in full.
