Electric Driving With a 600-Mile Safety Net

The Hyundai Santa Fe EREV uses electric motors to drive all four wheels while a gasoline engine works as an onboard generator. Its projected 600-mile total range aims at the biggest anxiety around long electric road trips without turning the three-row SUV into a conventional hybrid.

A Smaller Battery Does the Daily Work

Because the engine can replenish energy on longer journeys, the extended-range Santa Fe can use a smaller battery than a full EV. Owners can still plug it in, letting shorter routines rely on grid power while fuel remains available for distance. Hyundai is pairing that layout with dual-motor all-wheel drive.

Hyundai's First Step Into EREV Territory

This will be Hyundai's first extended-range electric vehicle and is expected to be built in the United States. The familiar Santa Fe body makes it a practical test bed: roomy, family-oriented, and already suited to the kind of travel where range matters. It is scheduled for the first half of 2027, with a Genesis GV70 EREV following the same broader strategy.
