The Shikishima Family Faces Godzilla Again

Godzilla Minus Zero returns to the people who survived Godzilla Minus One rather than leaving them behind for a disconnected sequel. Set in 1949, two years after the first film, it finds Koichi and Noriko Shikishima trying to rebuild a family and a country before another calamity tears through that fragile peace. Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe reprise their roles.

A Final Battle With Stranger Forces at Work

The new trailer shows old and new allies scrambling for a way to stop Godzilla, but its blue energy fields, unexplained lightning, and hints of other kaiju widen the threat. Weather forecaster Makoto Aoyama, played by Masami Nagasawa, joins the Disaster Response Bureau, while Motosuke Iida returns as balloon-section chief Akio Itagaki. A glimpse of New York also suggests the destruction may stretch beyond Japan.

Takashi Yamazaki Goes Bigger for IMAX

Writer-director Takashi Yamazaki is back behind the camera and remains closely involved with the visual effects. The production was filmed for the 1.43:1 IMAX format, making it the first Japanese feature created that way. That expanded frame is a fitting canvas for a story promising a harsher and more conclusive rematch.

From New York Premiere to Full IMAX Run

Godzilla Minus Zero will premiere at the New York Film Festival on September 26 before opening in Japan on November 3. Its North American theatrical release follows on November 6, 2026, including IMAX engagements.
