AMG Builds the V8 CLE to the Extreme

The Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung is a road-legal, rear-wheel-drive coupe developed with the racetrack as its priority. A 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 sends 637 horsepower to the rear wheels, backed by a flat-plane crankshaft and mild-hybrid assistance. It reaches 62 mph in 3.9 seconds and continues to a claimed 193 mph.

Carbon Replaces Nearly Everything It Can

AMG rebuilt the CLE 53 platform with carbon-fiber bodywork, polycarbonate rear glass, a wider track, and model-specific 20-inch forged wheels. The diet removes roughly 375 pounds compared with the donor car. Adjustable coilovers, carbon-ceramic brakes, an adjustable front splitter, and a towering rear wing help generate more than 550 pounds of downforce, while the cabin trades its rear seats for a roll cage and fits racing buckets with six-point harnesses.

Thirty Hand-Built Cars, All Already Spoken For

Each Spezialanfertigung is assembled by hand in Affalterbach as the second member of Mercedes' Mythos Series, following the open-top PureSpeed. Production stops at 30 cars, and every one sold before the public reveal. The huge aero pieces, two-seat cabin, and lack of ordinary driver-assistance comforts make its purpose unusually direct. This is less a preview of a normal CLE trim than a small engineering team's chance to build the most focused coupe the platform could support.
