Two Seats and No Driver's Position

Tesla Cybercab is a purpose-built robotaxi that removes the steering wheel and pedals entirely. Its cabin has two seats, with every occupant treated as a passenger from the start. AI4 computing handles the autonomous system, making the car a direct test of Tesla's ability to operate without conventional controls as backup.

A Small Battery Chases Big Efficiency

Regulatory filings describe a 48 kWh battery and a single front-mounted motor producing 219 horsepower. The 3,113-pound curb weight is roughly 700 pounds below the lightest Model 3, helping the Cybercab reach a rated 165 Wh per mile. EPA-adjusted real-world range is expected around 290 to 300 miles, below the raw 418-mile test figure but still substantial for a vehicle intended to circulate through a ride-hailing fleet.

Austin Gets the First Public Showcase

Tesla's invite-only Cybercab launch event promises attendees a direct experience of full autonomy and will also be livestreamed. Rides are expected to join the existing Tesla Robotaxi app in Austin soon afterward. A production Cybercab had already rolled off the Texas Gigafactory line in February, so the event moves the project closer to passenger service rather than another static reveal.

The Fleet Ambition Is Much Larger

Tesla currently offers Robotaxi rides in Texas and Florida and recently gained permission to deploy up to 5,000 autonomous vehicles in Clark County, Nevada, during its first year there. Planned robocar washing and charging facilities in Austin and Las Vegas point toward the infrastructure needed for expansion. Cybercab will show whether that network can grow around a vehicle designed with no human-driving mode at all.
